Benue APC Congress 2026: Unity, Loyalty and the Future of Progressive Leadership in Benue State

Politics is not merely about winning elections. It is about building institutions, sustaining structures, and preserving the values that bind a political movement together across generations. These truths were once again reaffirmed during the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress held in Makurdi, where party faithful gathered to consolidate the foundation of progressive leadership in Benue State.

For me, participating in this important congress was not just a political obligation. It was a moment of reflection on the journey of our party, the responsibilities of leadership, and the future of governance in Benue and Nigeria at large.

The APC remains a party built on structure, discipline, and loyalty. Those principles were visible throughout the congress, reminding us that a political movement only succeeds when its members remain united under a shared vision.

Why Party Structure Matters in Democratic Politics

Across democracies, the strength of a political party lies not only in the popularity of its candidates but in the stability and effectiveness of its organizational structure.

In Benue State, the APC has demonstrated this reality repeatedly. The party structure has served as a bridge between grassroots communities and national leadership, ensuring that the voice of the people remains central to governance.

The State Congress in Makurdi was therefore more than a routine political gathering. It was a strategic reaffirmation of institutional continuity.

Strong institutions create stability. Stability produces results.

When political organizations maintain order and discipline, they are able to deliver governance outcomes that benefit citizens, rather than becoming distracted by internal conflicts.

The APC’s progress in Benue over the past electoral cycle stands as clear evidence of this principle.

Supporting the Leadership of Dr. Austin Agada

One of the key outcomes of the congress was the renewed endorsement of Dr. Austin Agada as the Chairman of the APC State Executive Committee for another term.

Leadership continuity is often necessary when a team has demonstrated competence and delivered tangible outcomes.

Under Dr. Agada’s stewardship, the APC in Benue achieved significant political success. The party was able to produce a Governor as well as several national and state legislators during the last electoral cycle.

These achievements did not occur by chance.

They were the product of strategic coordination, organizational discipline, and effective political mobilization across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Our support for his leadership is therefore grounded in both experience and evidence.

When a leadership team has proven its ability to win elections, unify party members, and strengthen political structures, it deserves the opportunity to build upon that success.

Continuity allows progress to deepen.

The Importance of Loyalty in Party Politics

Politics can sometimes tempt individuals toward short-term ambitions at the expense of long-term stability. However, sustainable political movements are built on loyalty, discipline, and respect for institutional processes.

The APC State Congress reminded us of the importance of these principles.

Loyalty within a political party is not blind obedience. Rather, it is a recognition that collective progress requires unity of purpose.

Without loyalty to party structures, political organizations risk fragmentation. When fragmentation occurs, the ability to deliver governance outcomes becomes weakened.

For this reason, party congresses serve an essential democratic function.

They create a platform where members can reaffirm commitment to the ideals that bind the party together.

The Makurdi congress achieved exactly that.

Reaffirming Support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Beyond the state level, our discussions at the congress also focused on the national direction of Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Leadership at the national level inevitably shapes the opportunities available to states.

President Tinubu’s administration has embarked on a series of structural reforms aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s economy, strengthening institutions, and repositioning the country for long-term growth.

These reforms have not always been easy, but transformative leadership rarely follows the path of convenience.

Progress often requires difficult decisions made in the interest of future generations.

As members of the APC, we therefore reaffirmed our allegiance to the President and expressed our support for his leadership as Nigeria continues its journey toward economic recovery and national stability.

Our endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term reflects confidence in the direction of his reforms and belief in the long-term vision he represents for Nigeria.

Benue’s Role in Nigeria’s Progressive Future

Benue State occupies a unique position in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.

Known as the Food Basket of the Nation, the state holds enormous agricultural potential capable of transforming rural economies and strengthening national food security.

However, realizing this potential requires stable political leadership and effective policy alignment between state and federal governments.

Political unity within the APC therefore becomes critical.

When party structures are stable, leaders are able to focus their attention on policy innovation, economic growth, and social development rather than internal disputes.

The congress in Makurdi was therefore not only about party leadership. It was about creating a political environment that allows Benue to fully harness its economic and developmental potential.

Building a Culture of Discipline and Unity

One of the enduring lessons of successful political movements around the world is the importance of discipline within party ranks.

Discipline strengthens trust among party members. It also reassures citizens that political leaders are capable of working together in pursuit of common goals.

At the Makurdi congress, the atmosphere of unity among party stakeholders demonstrated that the APC in Benue remains committed to collective progress rather than personal rivalry.

Unity does not mean the absence of debate.

Healthy political parties encourage robust discussions and diverse perspectives. However, once decisions are reached through legitimate processes, members must rally around those decisions.

This culture of unity is what allows parties to remain strong across electoral cycles.

Looking Ahead: The Responsibility of Leadership

As we look toward the future, the task before us is clear.

Political leadership must move beyond rhetoric and focus on practical solutions that improve the lives of citizens.

In Benue State, this means addressing critical issues such as:

Security and protection of rural communities

Agricultural modernization and value addition

Youth employment and digital innovation

Infrastructure development

Strengthening educational institutions

These priorities require cooperation between party leaders, government institutions, and citizens themselves.

Political structures provide the framework, but real progress ultimately depends on responsible leadership and sustained commitment to development.

A Call for Continued Unity

The APC State Congress in Makurdi reminded us of a simple truth:

Political success is built on unity.

When party members stand together in support of shared ideals, they create a foundation strong enough to withstand challenges and pursue long-term progress.

Our reaffirmation of support for Dr. Austin Agada’s leadership of the APC State Executive Committee reflects confidence in the party’s organizational direction.

Our renewed allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demonstrates belief in Nigeria’s progressive future.

And our collective participation in the congress signals a broader commitment to strengthening democracy and advancing development in Benue State.

Conclusion: Strengthening the Progressive Vision

History often judges political movements not by their promises but by their capacity to build enduring institutions.

The APC State Congress in Makurdi served as an important step in consolidating the foundations of progressive leadership in Benue.

Through unity, discipline, and loyalty to democratic structures, the APC continues to position itself as a party capable of delivering both political stability and developmental progress.

As we move forward, the responsibility before us remains profound.

We must work tirelessly to ensure that politics remains a tool for service, leadership remains anchored in integrity, and governance continues to uplift the lives of our people.

The future of Benue — and indeed Nigeria — depends on it.
