Strengthening Our Party, Renewing Our Commitment to Service.

Updated: Feb 22

Today, I had the privilege of attending the All Progressives Congress Local Government Congress held in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State. It was a moment of reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to the ideals that bind us together as a progressive political family dedicated to national development and people-centered governance.

The congress provided an opportunity to engage with dedicated party stalwarts, grassroots leaders, and committed supporters who have remained steadfast in their belief in purposeful leadership and transformative governance. It was also a moment to reaffirm our collective loyalty to the vision of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the enduring leadership of our respected leader, George Akume.

More importantly, the gathering reinforced a central truth about political progress: strong institutions are built on unity, discipline, and shared purpose. As we look ahead to the 2027 General Elections, our focus remains clear — strengthening our party structures, consolidating grassroots support, and deepening our commitment to service.

The Power of Grassroots Engagement

The congress held in Lessel, within Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State, once again demonstrated the power of grassroots participation in shaping democratic governance. Democracy thrives when the voices of the people are heard, when communities actively participate in political processes, and when leadership emerges from genuine engagement with the people.

Our party’s strength lies not merely in its national structure but in its ability to mobilize at the local level. The enthusiasm, discipline, and unity displayed by party members at the congress reaffirm that the APC remains deeply connected to the aspirations of the people.

I was particularly inspired by the passion and commitment of party faithful who continue to dedicate their time and energy toward advancing our shared vision for progress. Their unwavering support is a reminder that governance must always be rooted in service, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

Grassroots engagement is not simply a political strategy; it is the foundation of sustainable development. When communities are empowered to participate actively in governance, policies become more inclusive, development becomes more impactful, and leadership becomes more accountable.

Renewed Hope as a Guiding Vision

Nigeria stands at a critical moment in its national journey. The Renewed Hope Agenda represents a bold vision for economic growth, institutional reforms, social development, and national unity. It is a vision that seeks to address the pressing challenges facing our nation while unlocking opportunities for future generations.

Our commitment to this agenda goes beyond political affiliation. It reflects a shared belief that leadership must be visionary, inclusive, and focused on tangible results. The Renewed Hope framework emphasizes economic revitalization, infrastructure development, security enhancement, and improved welfare for citizens — goals that resonate deeply with the aspirations of Nigerians.

As party members and leaders, our responsibility is to translate this vision into measurable impact at every level of governance. We must ensure that policies are not merely articulated but effectively implemented, that development is not merely promised but delivered, and that hope is not merely spoken but experienced by the people.

This commitment requires discipline, unity, and continuous engagement with the citizens we serve. It demands that we place national interest above personal ambition and collective progress above individual gain.

The Leadership Example of Senator George Akume

Every political movement requires strong and principled leadership to guide its direction. In this regard, the leadership of Senator George Akume continues to inspire unity, stability, and institutional growth within our party.

His decades of public service, dedication to nation-building, and commitment to strengthening democratic institutions provide a model of responsible leadership. His experience and guidance have been instrumental in consolidating the APC’s presence, particularly in Benue State and across the nation.

Leadership is not defined by position alone but by the ability to inspire trust, foster unity, and build lasting institutions. Senator Akume’s contributions to governance and party development remind us that true leadership is rooted in service, integrity, and commitment to the common good.

As we move forward, we remain guided by this example — building structures that outlive individuals, strengthening systems that serve the people, and promoting values that advance national development.

Strengthening Party Structures for 2027

The Local Government Congress was not merely an event; it was part of a broader process of institutional strengthening and strategic preparation for the future. The 2027 General Elections will require a party that is united, organized, and responsive to the needs of the people.

Strengthening our party structures involves several critical elements:

Institutional discipline: A strong political party is built on order, transparency, and adherence to democratic processes. Internal democracy strengthens credibility and public trust.

Grassroots mobilization: Our success depends on sustained engagement with communities, youth participation, and inclusive representation across all demographics.

Capacity building: We must continue to equip party members with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective governance and leadership.

Policy-driven engagement: Political activity must be guided by ideas, development strategies, and solutions that address real societal challenges.

By focusing on these priorities, we position our party to remain responsive, effective, and prepared to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Unity as the Foundation of Progress

One of the most significant outcomes of the congress was the renewed spirit of unity among party members. In times of political competition and national challenges, unity becomes not merely desirable but essential.

Unity fosters stability, encourages collaboration, and strengthens our ability to deliver meaningful development. It ensures that differences in opinion become opportunities for constructive dialogue rather than sources of division.

Our party must continue to promote inclusiveness, mutual respect, and shared purpose. The strength of a political movement lies in its ability to accommodate diverse perspectives while maintaining a clear and common vision.

Benue’s Role in National Development

As a proud son of Benue State, I firmly believe in the immense potential of our state to contribute to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity. Benue possesses rich agricultural resources, resilient communities, and a vibrant population capable of driving economic transformation.

However, unlocking this potential requires strategic planning, institutional development, and sustained investment in human capital and infrastructure. Political stability, effective governance, and collaborative leadership will play crucial roles in realizing this vision.

Our efforts at the party level must therefore align with broader developmental goals — promoting economic empowerment, supporting agricultural innovation, improving education, and strengthening public institutions.

The future of Benue depends on our collective commitment to structured development and people-centered policies.

A Personal Reflection on Service

For me, attending the Local Government Congress was not merely a political obligation but a reaffirmation of my lifelong commitment to public service. Leadership is a responsibility entrusted by the people, and it must always be exercised with humility, integrity, and dedication.

Public service requires listening to the people, understanding their challenges, and working tirelessly to improve their lives. It demands continuous engagement, accountability, and a genuine desire to serve.

The warmth and encouragement I received from party members today further strengthened my resolve to continue working for the progress of our party, our state, and our nation.

Looking Ahead with Confidence

As we prepare for the future, we must remain focused on building strong institutions, nurturing responsible leadership, and advancing policies that promote sustainable development. The road ahead will require hard work, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to our shared ideals.

The APC Local Government Congress in Lessel has reaffirmed our readiness to move forward with unity, discipline, and purpose. It has strengthened our resolve to support the Renewed Hope Agenda and to consolidate the progress already made.

Together, we will continue to build a stronger party, a more prosperous Benue State, and a better Nigeria for present and future generations.

Our journey continues — guided by service, strengthened by unity, and inspired by hope.
